Ben Peeler Biography
Ben Peeler was born and raised in Mississippi, which sounds super rootsy and cool, but Ben states he “actually grew up listening to a lot of David Lindley and Ry Cooder, California boys!” He’s also a massive, lifelong fan of The Band, which he feels is an important thing to note. Ben attended the University of Miami School of Music where he studied both Classical guitar (his major) and Jazz guitar. After graduating from U of M Ben moved to Los Angeles where he has been ever since. Ben started on guitar but has really been primarily a steel guitarist (lap steel, pedal steel and dobro) for most of his professional career. Ben has had a great time playing, touring and recording with a wide variety of amazing artists over the years, everything from the Wallflowers to Shakira, Shelby Lynne to Jimmy Cliff and even the odd TV show or movie thrown in. Ben says, “the steel guitar, in all it’s forms, is just about the coolest instrument around and I’m really looking forward to our “steel-guitar take-over” this year and to sharing my love of the instrument and showing all I know to everybody who’s ready to take that slide.”
Sonny Landreth Biography
Just named Blues Man of the Year, Sonny is a Southwest Louisiana-based guitarist, songwriter, singer and a musician’s musician. His blues slide guitar playing sound is distinctive and unlike anything else you’ve ever heard. His unorthodox guitar style comes from the manner in which he simultaneously plays slide and makes fingering movements on the fretboard. Landreth, who has an easygoing personality, was named one of the most advanced guitarist in the world by guitar legend Eric Clapton.
