Workshop Description

This course is designed to take your playing to the next level no matter where your playing is now. We will discuss the use of pentatonic and Major scales as well as others and their uses.  Guitarist and instructor Dennis McCumber and legendary David Lindley will show you how to play the pentatonic scale from one end of the neck to the other in a musical way while spending a great deal of time working on phrasing and lick development.  In addition, you’ll expand your chord vocabulary and constructed chords. Learn to embellish chords a la Curtis Mayfield/Jimi Hendrix and the many grooves that make up Rock and Blues. This course will also take an in depth look into arranging and composing songs in many genres of Rock and Blues.  You’ll be amazed by the progress that can be achieved, join us for a fun-filled week.

Dennis McCumber Biography

Dennis McCumber has been a guitar instructor and performer for more than 20 years. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in music education from The College of Saint Rose.  Dennis performs regularly in the New York City area with various rock, blues, and funk bands, and occasionally as a classical soloist. In addition to performing, Dennis has been a middle school music teacher in the Bronx for the past 17 years. While teaching in the Bronx, his students have performed for Carlos Santana, Dr Dre, Bruce Springsteen and Yoko Ono. Dennis was an instructor at the National Guitar Workshop for more then 10 years, where he taught Blues, Funk, and Rock. He’s played the Chicago Blues festival on the main stage as well playing the Hard Rock Café on Beale street in Memphis. He’s also performed multiple times at Buddy Guy’s club “Legends” in Chicago. He’s performed and taught alongside such greats as Robben Ford, Matt Schofield and Ronnie Earl.
