Workshop Description

This diverse course will take students on a whirlwind sonic tour of “high octane” rock, blues, jazz and country guitar styles! Rock, Blues & Bop features expert instruction from renowned guitar educator, Crown veteran and “world class guitarist” James Hogan along with legendary “Nashville Session Ace,” Grammy-Award winner and Multiple CMA Award winning guitarist Brent Mason! Tons of licks, tricks and techniques will be covered in class and students will learn to apply all of the new information they’ll learn in a laid back and friendly environment. There will be plenty of time for jamming in class too, and a few special guests will be popping in throughout the week to join James & Brent!


James Hogan Biography

James HoganJames Hogan is known by many as a “world class” guitarist. He is an artist who is regarded highly by his peers and is in constant demand as a touring sideman, studio musician, producer, and educator. Hogan is admired world wide for his musicality, his soulfulness and his versatility. This versatility is evident in Hogan’s top-selling instrumental album entitled TRUE DIVERSITY.

James has worked with such diverse artists as David Sanborn, Dave Brubeck, Chuck Schuldiner, Al Jorgensen, Chaka Khan, Idina Menzel and the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra.

In addition to a successful music career, James Hogan is also a fine music teacher. James was a senior instructor at The National Guitar Workshop’s Florida, Connecticut, Nashville, Washington D.C. and SUNY Purchase campuses from 1998-2012. James Hogan is currently an Adjunct Professor of Guitar at The University Of North Florida and Florida State College in Jacksonville, FL where he has been on staff since 2000. Brent Mason Biography

Brent Mason is one of the most recorded guitarists in history. As well as being a Grammy Award winning artist he is also 14 times winner of the Academy of Country Music, the CMA (being nominated every year since 1991), a NAMMIE winner and for many years has won the annual Music City Allstars Award (the musician that has played on most songs on the radio in respect of the top ten for the entire year).

Brent is predominantly known for his work as a session guitarist, working out of Nashville in a career lasting over 30 years. Not only can he be heard on a high proportion of the country Top 10 at any given time, his playing can also be heard on countless TV commercials, film sound tracks and television scores. His technique and the theoretical approach to his style have been studied extensively from places as diverse as the Berklee College of Music and countless internet forums and online lessons.
