I was pleasantly surprised by the picturesque beauty of the location. The lodge is beautiful and the grounds are very serene. I had plenty of activities to choose from and I enjoyed every minute of my stay… we are coming back.Megan Zappa
The Flathead Valley sits ringed by the Rocky Mountains and acts as the gateway to the majestic Glacier National Park; the Crown of the Continent. Called “the Backbone of the World” by the Blackfeet Nation, the waters from the parks streams, lakes and rivers trickle down along a triple continental divide–The Crown of the Continent. Waters from these mountains flow to the Gulf of Mexico, Hudson Bay, and the Pacific Ocean.
The Whitefish Mountain Resort overlooks the Flathead from the north edge of the valley. In the summertime this ski resort stays open, offering gondola rides to the top, with views overlooking the peaks of Glacier National Park to the north, and the farm fields of the Flathead Valley below. The resort offers summertime activities including a zip line ride, alpine slide, as well as mountain bike and hiking trails to the summit.
The National Bison Range is an hour south of Bigfork. It is home to about 350-500 bison. Other large wildlife found on the Range include elk, white-tail and mule deer, pronghorn antelope, bighorn sheep and black bear. Because of its open grasslands, the Bison Range is a place for the public to enjoy some excellent wildlife observation and photography.
